Private Equity Primer Interviews Nick Spezio for their I Wish I Had Known Blog Series
Nick Spezio, Managing Director of Exbo Group’s Transaction Services (TS) Team, was recently asked to sit down with Private Equity Primer to discuss his background in M&A and the insights he’s gained thus far in his career.
Nick shares his transition from audit to Financial Due Diligence (FDD) and the key skills that drive success in M&A. Beyond technical expertise, he emphasizes the importance of clear communication, proactive client management, and adapting to the dynamic, often contentious nature of deal-making. His insights offer valuable lessons for professionals looking to make a similar career shift.
Nick also highlights the role of mentorship, structured training, and networking in long-term career growth. He shares how Exbo has been able to successfully scale its TS team since its start, and stresses the importance of integrating offshore resources for efficiency.
His biggest takeaway? Start building your network early—relationships shape your career in M&A. He says, "You need to build your personal brand, have a great name and reputation with those you work with. And here is the part I wish more young people knew. Your network, who you are as a person, your personal brand, your name, your reputation, all those things are really, really important."
